The CSS Model C8000 automatic test system can be used for photovoltaic array and string measurement testing. A measurement system is key in analyzing true panel performance, and in accurately engaging in comparative panel performance evaluation, which may be of special interest when evaluating engineering prototype panels and new photovoltaic technologies. In addition to panel performance, the information gathered with this system could be used to help predict required repairs and schedule maintenance so that the array can be kept at a peak performance.

Customized Test Fixtures

The test fixture, a device that interfaces between the ATS and UUT, is necessary for automated testing. Due to different form factors and various connector types, it is impossible to find an off the shelf test fixture that can fit all test requirements. The Chroma 8000 ATS support team not only helps plan and develop the ATS, but the also provide their expertise to tailor a test fixture to the customer’s needs.

Software Platform

Chroma’s I-V Characterization soft panel provides users with valuable information about their photovoltaic cells or panels. The application can generate I-V curves, which can be used to calculate P-V curves. From the P-V graph, the maximum power point can be determined. Adjustments can then be made to obtain peak power performance. Chroma’s soft panel will also create tab delimited text reports for both summary and I-V data points for post processing applications. Various hardware and software configuration options allow users to adapt and customize the soft panel to best fit their PV cell/panel. This soft panel makes use of the internal measurement and current range capabilities of Chroma’s 63600 series DC Loads, ensuring fast and accurate PV characterization.
